Parameter driven feeds

We have introduced a new feature on the Mediafed stats/advertising system to accommodate publishers with a dynamic approach to feed delivery.

An increasing number of websites allow users to create bespoke RSS feeds based on search results. An example would be a job site that allows users to search by salary, location, job type etc. and then presents them with an RSS url that delivers new results as they come through. This is a great use of RSS - if you are hunting casually for a new position it is obviously better to be notified only when a suitable one becomes available rather than checking the actual job site every day.

This facility can obviously generate an infinite number of feeds which are impossible to setup on our system in advance so we have developed a module which allows for the feeds to be created on the fly. When the user's request is forwarded to our system, we query the publisher's site, retrieve the raw results, insert the enhancement code and pass it back to the user. With this development we can now measure and monetise these type of feeds.

To see this in action, visit http://itn.co.uk/search?q=obama then click on one of the available keywords at the top. You'll then get a page with an option on the right to subscribe to the feed. This request is then forwarded to our system which generates the results.
